Reading Challenges

Looking to take your reading to the next level? We have additional reading challenges for kids and teens.

1,000 Books Before Kindergarten

For birth-kindergarten. Reading has been established as an early indicator of academic success. Public formal education does not typically start until ages 5-6. Before then, parents and caregivers are the first education providers in learning to read. To help your child, join 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten and read together to earn prizes and complete the goal of reading 1,000 books before kindergarten. Join at any time before your child begins kindergarten. Stop by the Kids & Teens Desk on the second floor to pick up a log. If you recently completed the program, don’t forget to tag us on social media at @ipplinfo.

Baby Book Bees

For birth-age one. If your child is under age one, you can start the 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program with Baby Book Bees and read 100 books before age one. Pick up your reading log at the Kids & Teens Desk on the second floor. Sponsored by the Lawrence Family.

Caudill, Monarch, and Bluestem Reading Challenges

For grades 1-8. Take the Caudill, Monarch, or Bluestem challenge! Read all 20 books from the list for your grade group and get a free book. Logs are available near the library's second-floor Kids & Teens Desk.

100 Books Before Graduation

For grades 7-12. Join the 100 Books Before Graduation reading challenge and win a prize for every 20 books you read. Participating is easy! You just have to read 100 books before you graduate from high school or the equivalent learning level. Fill out our reading logs with the title of each book you read or listen to (Books for school count, too!) and rate it. When you get to 20 books, bring your log to the Kids & Teens Desk on the library's second floor for a prize and your next sheet. Note: The prize book must be a title selected from our teen collection, and it must be in print and available in paperback. To get started, sign up at the Kids & Teens Desk on the library's second floor
